About

Hearts Landing Ranch in Granite Bay offers Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) with rescued horses. Many of their horses were saved from abandonment or slaughter, and their own stories of resilience help them connect with people working through hard things.

The ranch has served the community for more than 10 years and is the only EAGALA Military-Designated equine therapy facility in Northern California, with trauma-informed care built specifically for veterans.

How they help veterans

  • Each session pairs a licensed mental health professional, a certified equine specialist, and one or more rescued therapy horses.
  • No riding is involved. Veterans work with the horses from the ground in activities built around their own goals.
  • Structured multi-week programs help veterans with sleep, anxiety, isolation, and expressing what they have carried silently.
  • Staff are trained in military culture, and the ranch partners with Vet Centers, VA programs, and veteran organizations.

Who they serve

  • Combat veterans
  • Veterans living with PTSD
  • Veterans affected by Military Sexual Trauma (MST)
  • Veterans transitioning to civilian life
  • Veterans facing anxiety, depression, or emotional stress
  • Active duty service members and reservists when appropriate

Cost

Most veteran clients receive full or partial scholarships thanks to donors and community partners.
